Volkswagen's emissions cheating scandal began to hit vehicle sales in October, according to a leading automotive consultancy. As Sonia Legg reports the German group lost ground in Western Europe, where overall market growth slowed to 2.7 percent.

Protesters in London try to block the removal of migrants from their temporary accommodation, as the UK government began detaining people before controversial deportation flights to Rwanda start. The protesters occupy the road in front of a bus believed to be waiting to take asylum seekers from a hotel in the Peckham area of the British capital to an accommodation barge moored off the south coast of England. Labour Party leader Keir Starmer arrives to cast his ballot at a polling station in London, as Britain begins voting in local and mayoral elections that are expected to increase pressure on beleaguered Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
