The head of Mexico’s powerful Sinaloa Cartel fled Altiplano prison on Saturday night through a system of tunnels that includes a 1,500-metre-long tunnel that ends at a nearby town.
Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, the fugitive drug kingpin, suffered injuries after he escaped the authorities’ attempt to recapture him in the mountains in western Mexico.
El Salto, Sep 28 (EFE).- The Mexican government announced Monday that it will close the "Puente Grande" federal prison in the western state of Jalisco, famous for being the scene of the first escape of drug lord and former Sinaloa Cartel leader Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman.The Secretariat of Security and Civilian Protection announced the closure of the prison, formally known as the Federal Center for Social Readaptation (Cefereso) Number 2 Occidente, in the Official Gazette of Mexico. "The jury found that Guzman lead the Sinaloa cartel, one of the largest and most dangerous drug cartels in the world, and that he's responsible for violence including murders and the smuggling of massive amounts of narcotics into the United States over a period of decades" says US attorney Richard Donoghue, after a jury finds 'El Chapo' guilty on all counts. Juan Escobar, son of notorious Colombian drug trafficker Pablo Escobar, said the true story of his father's death has been hushed up. Colombian National Police claimed they shot Escobar dead after using radio triangulation technology to pin point his location as depicted in the hit show 'Narcos.' However, Juan dismissed the role of the Colombian authorities, the Americans, and even the mafia in the role of Pablo Escobar's death, instead calling it a suicide.
