The EU says it will set up a stand-alone agency to crack down on money laundering across Europe where major banks have been hit by a wave of dirty money scandals. Many cases have involved northern countries such as Denmark, Sweden and Finland with a reputation for playing by the rules, but criminal gangs and terrorism are also a central concern. SOUNDBITE
The Boy Scouts of America will be facing at least 82,000 claims of abuse. CNN reports that former scouts have submitted legal filings against the Boy Scouts. The estimate of victims was made by a spokeswoman for the legal team representing the alleged survivors. The deadline for submitting claims in the proceedings is 5 p.m. ET Monday. "We are devastated by the number of lives impacted by past abuse in scouting and moved by the bravery of those who have come forward," a BSA statement said. CNN reports the Boy Scouts will file for bankruptcy so it does not have to pay any of the victims a settlement.
Newser reports the charges against disgraced Hollywood mogul and sex offender Harvey Weinstein continue to pile up. Los Angeles Country prosecutors say Weinstein was charged Friday with the rape of two more women. The district attorney's office says the charges include three counts of rape and three counts of forcible oral copulation involving the two women. Tallied up, Weinstein is now charged with 11 felony counts in Los Angeles County, involving five women. The 68-year-old is serving a 23-year prison sentence in New York on convictions for rape and sexual assault against two women.
