From women to men: the designer Maxime Simoëns forgets women's ready-to- wear and unveils his first men's collection.

Description

Maxime Simoëns is back and choosing men over women. However his feminine collections which were both architectural and sophisticated quickly attracted the attention of the press and the celebrities, from the sublime dress worn by Léa Seydoux, victorious at the Cannes festival in 2013, to LVMH taking him under its wing between 2013 and 2015.(interview)Hats off to him, Maxime Simoëns decided to break with the luxury group in order to be free to create and to see his clothes worn, and this time, on men, through a complete range, moving from accessories to underwear…A wardrobe that is potentially less sophisticated but that remains graphic, arty and extremely well executed. (interview)Interview with Maxime Simoëns:I was becoming weary of the women's world, it excited me a lot less, and I was a bit saturated by the rhythm and by the pressure, not because it was unsustainable but just because I didn't see the interest anymore. The idea is really to understand what I want to do, it's clothing that is pure tough, that is wearable, not just clothing for special occasions, like a costume you could say. For me, I prefer the classic look for men and I think my friends do too, so I wanted to respond to this desire to have little twists but not to be too fancy. In fact, it's sort of the opposite of what I did for women.I thought it was interesting to propose a wardrobe that is mono reference, that's to say for example, I have one pair of boxers, one slip, one casual shirt, one smarter shirt, one pair of sophisticated trousers, one pair of tracksuits, one sweater, one t-shirt etc. So it's all silhouette, because for a man, when he has found ‘his t-shirt', he wants to buy it in lots of different models and he doesn't want to have to try it on, he just wants it to be efficient, that it works and for it to make him feel good. When you see everyday clothing I think that it's easily accessible, and that's what I want and it's what I think men want, that's to say they want to be cool, to dress in an easy way, but at the same time to have a different detail to their neighbor and to feel original.
