The US Senate votes to allow the calling of witnesses in Donald Trump's impeachment trial, throwing a wrench into Republican hopes to wrap up proceedings with a swift acquittal of the former president. The US Senate votes 56-44 to proceed with the impeachment trial against former President Donald Trump despite his having left office.
