After an alarming outbreak of a mutant coronavirus, multiple countries have canceled flights from the United Kingdom. According to Business Insider, the move was prompted by fears around the new variant of COVID-19. The mutant coronavirus is believed to be up to 70% more transmissible than the original strain. In order to stop its spread, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that London and surrounding areas would suddenly be plunged into lockdown. Dutch authorities confirmed at least one case of this COVID-19 variant had reached the Netherlands. Flights from the UK to The Netherlands are canceled until January 1st, as are those to Belgium. On Sunday afternoon, Italian foreign minister Luigi di Maio said that the government would be suspending all travel from the UK.

Investigators now believe the attack on the US Capitol last week was not just a protest that spiraled out of control. CNN reports that the belief, early in the probe, will demand significant investigation. Evidence uncovered so far, including weapons and tactics seen on surveillance video, suggests the attack was planned. The FBI says some participants at the Trump rally at the Ellipse, outside the White House, left the event early, perhaps to retrieve weapons. They're also looking at travel and communications records to determine if they can build a case that is similar to a counterterrorism investigation. Corruption prosecutors and agents are also engaging in the hunt for wrongdoers, thanks to their expertise in financial investigations. The FBI reported that it has received more than 126,000 digital tips from the public regarding the attack on the Capitol.
The late, great French biologist Louis Pasteur once said, 'Chance favors the prepared mind.' A group of Dutch cancer scientists says they've discovered a pair of salivary glands that absolutely no one had ever noticed before. CNN reports the glands are hidden away in the skull, where the nasal cavity and the throat meet. The cancer researchers first came across the body part during a scan designed to look for tumorous growths. The 'unknown entity' cannot be seen on X-rays, or in ultrasound, MRI scans, or PET scans. Rather, the glands can only be seen in a new, highly advanced type of scan called PSMA PET/CT The scientists, from the Netherlands Cancer Institute, propose naming them 'tubarial glands.'
