Images show houses up in flames in the eastern Ukrainian city of Bakhmut as artillery fire roars through the area. Bakhmut found itself on the path of Russian troops pushing to take over the Donetsk region, causing many of its residents to flee. Ukraine's president Volodymyr Zelensky has called for civilians to leave the frontline region bearing the brunt of the Kremlin's offensive. IMAGES

A loudspeaker on the streets periodically tells people what they should do in case of an evacuation. Caracas, July 9 (EFE).- Dozens of Caracas residents have fled their homes to escape raging gun battles between security forces and organized crime gangs in the Venezuelan capital region that have killed many.Nonprofit Otro Enfoque has opened doors of its headquarters to accommodate about 30 children and young people from the areas worst affected by the violence in Caracas.The violence broke out on Wednesday evening in several areas after the police started an operation to dismantle the armed groups. Eyewitnesses who have fled Mekelle, the capital of Ethiopia's Tigray region, is under fierce bombardment. CNN reports a communications blackout in the region has made reporting on claims from both sides difficult. About half a million residents live in Mekelle. UNICEF says roughly half of them are children. More than 43,000 Ethiopian refugees have crossed into neighboring Sudan since fighting began on November 4th. The number of people internally displaced inside Tigray is growing daily. According to the UNHCR, the pre-existing refugee camps in the region only have food supplies to last three days.
