Rodin Cars has completed a significant upgrade to its test-tracks; widening Stage 2 from 7 metres to 10 metres, the construction of a 130 meter radius high speed turn on Stage 3 and a full resurfacing of both tracks. JCL Asphalt was contracted to undertake this significant project, which is part of the continued development of the New Zealand South Island automotive manufacturing facilities. The Test Track Facility is divided into three stages. Stage 1 consists of a 30m radius skid-pad used to fine-tune the balance of a car’s handling. The second stage is an undulating 2,350m 12-turn circuit of dips, blind crests and varying cambers. Finally, Stage 3 is made up of a fast, flat and deceptively challenging 2,438m circuit of seven turns and a 900m straight upon which the Rodin FZED has achieved speeds approaching 300km/h. Stage 2 has now been widened to 10m to allow for a better driver experience.

Electric cars and fuel efficient vehicles are all the rage as people become more environmentally conscious and try to reduce their carbon footprints. A group of students from the Delft Technical University in the Netherlands unveiled the EcoRunner 7, an electric vehicle with a fuel efficiency equivalent of 8,200 miles per gallon. The students plan to prove the fuel efficiency of the EcoRunner 7 by driving from the Dutch capital Amsterdam to Cairo, the capital of Egypt! The newest version of the EcoRunner comes with some significant upgrades. By making the body completely out of carbon fiber, the team have brought the weight of the EcoRunner 7 down to less than 22 pounds. The ultra efficient vehicle runs on a small electric motor located underneath the driver in the back. Team Delft is due to participate in the world championship of fuel economy, the Shell Eco-marathon in London, this coming May.
