Jeannie Mai Hangs Tough, Remains Miss USA Host

Description

This year's Miss USA pageant is still feeling the fallout after Donald Trump's presidential candidacy speech. Many, including NBC Universal, felt Trump made comments that were derogatory and offensive towards Mexicans. NBC decided to refuse to air the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants, and severed all business ties with Trump. Many other celebrities involved with the pageant also dropped out. But there's one celeb that isn't abandoning the pageant, or the presidential hopeful, despite the ongoing controversy—and that's Jeannie Mai. Mai told People Magazine that while she doesn't condone Trump's statements, she has decided to continue in her role as co-host. She said that while the events were "unfortunate," the goals of the pageant and its organization have remained unchanged.

"We do believe that a deal is possible and we're going to continue to pursue it," State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller tells reporters during a briefing.
