With so many people working from home, restaurant traffic is down but grocery stores are getting plenty of business. But according to Business Insider, Whole Foods had 21% fewer visitors across its stores on October 4 compared to the same day last year. That flies in the face of other grocery store chains, where traffic is bouncing back much faster. At Kroger's, for example, business was only down 2%. A Whole Foods spokesperson said stores normally get a lot of lunchtime trade from office workers, who are now working from home. Sales of packaged sandwiches and salads have fallen 75%. For every five in-store shoppers Whole Foods Markets had last October, it now only has four.

Residents of the Chinese city of Hefei now have their very own traveling convenience store, selling everything from candy to veggies. Swedish start-up Wheelys developed the Moby Mart in cooperation with Hefei University and retail company Himalafy. Incredibly, the Moby Mart store operates 24/7 and all without any humans manning the store. Moby Mart offers basic groceries, such as milk, bread, fruit and coffee, which are only available to customers which have downloaded the Moby Mart app. Customers connect their card to the app so that Moby Mart technolgy can scan their purchase and charge them automatically. The app even allows customers to call the store to their location. Could this be the future of grocery shopping?
Amazon is not the only company that has a vision for the future of grocery shopping. A Coop supermarket in Milan showed off their own interactive supermarket, where shoppers can find out everything they need to know about their products with the flick of a wrist. Motion detectors read movements and display product info such as nutritional facts and allergy advice on monitors set up throughout the store.
