Suit Brought Against Boy Scouts Over Sexual Abuse

Description

Saying a now-dead scoutmaster sexually abused them as children in the 1960s and 1970s, seventeen men and two women are suing the Boy Scouts of America and local chapters in Connecticut. Filed in state court in Stamford last month, the suit claims Boy Scout leaders knew or should have known that Ridgefield Scoutmaster Donald Dennis was a danger to the scouts and didn't protect them. Attorney Brooke Goff, who represents the plaintiffs, said one of them was molested more than 1,000 times.

"We are devastated by the number of lives impacted by past abuse in scouting and moved by the bravery of those who have come forward," a BSA statement said. CNN reports the Boy Scouts will file for bankruptcy so it does not have to pay any of the victims a settlement.
