Fast-Food Workers Protest Across the United States

Fast-food workers and others employed in low-wage industries were joined by union activists Tuesday for a series of protests in Los Angeles and across the country as part of a continuing campaign for a $15-an-hour minimum wage. The local protests, which were organized by the Service Employees International Union, included fast-food, home-care and child-care workers and employees in other industries. According to organizers, rallies were to be held across California and in other states, including Ohio, Florida and Virginia as part of a nationwide call for $15-an-hour wages and union rights.

Banking Association Asks For Tellers To Be Deemed 'Essential Workers'

It's generally thought that once the COVID-19 vaccine becomes available, front-line healthcare workers and nursing home residents will be first in line. But according to Gizmodo, bank tellers may get to skip the line--past them, and past the over-65's and those with underlying conditions. The industry trade group American Bankers Association has asked federal health authorities to designate consumer-facing bank employees as 'essential workers.' Such a designation would give them vaccine prioritization once the Federal Food and Drug Administration grants emergency-use authorization. To date, the U.S. has seen nearly 15 million COVID-19 cases and 280,000 deaths--the most in the world. The CDC predicts 19,500 new deaths will be reported during the week of Christmas, and that another 300,000 COVID-19 cases will be added in December.

80% Of Adults Want Biden To Act Fast On Aid

A Morning Consult poll finds that four in five Americans want Biden to prioritize federal aid. The top two concerns of the voters were small business aid and stimulus checks. Respondents also indicated favorability of extending mortgage forbearance policies. They also favored increasing unemployment benefits and raising taxes for the wealthy.
