New York (CNN Business)Disguised as passionate Jets fans, Timothée Chalamet and Pete Davidson mocked conservative news channel Newsmax on "Saturday Night Live" last night. The skit opens with a voiceover, saying, "Millions of real Americans are switching from Fox News to Newsmax because Newsmax tells them the truth -- that Donald Trump could still win this election." SNL's Alex Moffat, playing Sportsmax anchor Robert King, throws shade at "mainstream sports networks like ESPN," mocking Newsmax's attempt to take over the conservative news space. Moffat says "It's been reported that on November 29, the Jets lost to the Dolphins 20 to three."
On Thursday, Fox Corp. stock dropped as much as 6% on Thursday. The dip came after Pres. Donald Trump retweeted support for its rival right-leaning news networks Newsmax and OANN. Trump and his supporters have been irritated by Fox News since it called the state of Arizona for Joe Biden on election night. According to Axios Trump could have his eyes set on creating his own news network to directly compete with Fox. "Very sad to watch this happen, but they forgot what made them successful, what got them there..."
A new Reuters analysis reveals President Donald Trump actually performed better this year than he did in 2016, in counties where many have died from COVID-19. Results from 139 counties in 19 different states found that Trump made a 4% jump in votes in areas highly impacted by the coronavirus. According to HuffPost, Trump also won the majority of votes in states with the highest COVID-19 death rates, including Florida and Texas. More than 230,000 Americans and over 1 million people worldwide have died of the novel coronavirus. Nevertheless, many American voters supported the president. Constituents in these areas may have been susceptible to COVID-19 because they listened to the Trump administration's consistent downplaying of the virus. Many Trump supporters do not wear masks or believe COVID-19 is as severe as it really is, in part, due to the administration’s consistent downplaying of the virus.
