Chipotle Shares Take Another Hit After Boston College Illness


Shares for Chipotle Mexican Grill were down 6 percent in extended trading on Monday on fears of more food poisoning after more than 20 Boston College students got sick after eating at the restaurant chain over the weekend.     Chipotle founder and CEO, Steve Ells, apologized Thursday to the more than 120 Boston College students who became ill after eating at a nearby Chipotle, and vowed that the restaurant would be the safest place to eat.   • Chipotle in Boston Blamed for Getting College Students Sick

    Chipotle said late Monday that it was temporarily closing a restaurant in Boston's Cleveland Circle after Boston College said 30 of its students, including members of the men's basketball team, complained of gastrointestinal symptoms after eating at the chain. The school said it was working with health authorities to investigate the cause. According to a report from the Boston Inspectional Services department dated Monday, an employee at the restaurant in Boston was sick while working a shift Thursday. William Christopher, commissioner of the department, said at a briefing Tuesday that it was not immediately known if the restaurant's management was aware of the employee's symptoms. Christopher added that the restaurant's permit to operate has been suspended by the city and a disinfection process has begun.
