    Carrie Fisher was an icon, not just for her acting but for the way she lived her life. Fisher was born to show biz royalty, the daughter of singer Eddie Fisher and actress Debbie Reynolds. She jumped to super stardom when she played Princess Leia in the Star Wars series. Fisher battled bi-polar disorder and addiction since her teens. She was open about her addictions and struggles, often using her trademark wit, self deprecating humor, grit and resilience as a way to show people the struggles are all too human but surmountable. Fisher was 60 years old.

  • Obama, Japanese PM Speak at Pearl Harbor

    On Tuesday, U.S. president Barack Obama and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe made a historic pilgrimage to Pearl Harbor in Hawaii where a devastating surprise attack by Japan on United States soil sent America marching into World War II over 75 years ago. In a speech, Abe said, "As the prime minister of Japan, I offer my sincere and everlasting condolences to the souls of those who lost their lives here, as well as to the spirits of all the brave men and women whose lives were taken by a war that commenced in this very place." In his own speech, Obama called the harbor a sacred place and said that "even the deepest wounds of war can give way to friendship and lasting peace."

  • Japan PM to Visit Hawaii for His Final Summit Meeting With Obama

    Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said on Monday he will visit Hawaii on Dec. 26-27 for a summit with U.S. President Barack Obama and to remember the victims of Japan's Pearl Harbor attack 75 years ago. Abe's visit comes after Obama made a trip to Hiroshima in May, the first sitting U.S. president to visit the Japanese city that the United States dropped an atomic bomb on in 1945.
