The United States denounces "loose talk" on nuclear weapons after Russian President Vladimir Putin said Moscow would only use an atomic weapon in response to an enemy strike. Declining to respond directly to Putin, State Department spokesman Ned Price told reporters, "We think any loose talk of nuclear weapons is absolutely irresponsible." SOUNDBITE
At a press conference with President of Poland Andrzej Duda, United States Vice President Kamala Harris says that "the NATO alliance is stronger and Russia is weaker because of what Putin has done," as Russia steps up its invasion of Ukraine. SOUNDBITE
US top diplomat Antony Blinken calls President Vladimir Putin's "provocative" nuclear rhetoric "the height of irresponsibility," days after the Russian leader put his strategic forces on alert after invading Ukraine. "It's dangerous. It adds to the risk of miscalculation. It needs to be avoided," Blinken tells a press briefing in Washington. SOUNDBITE
"The problem is not that Putin is smart," former US President Donald Trump says during a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Orlando, Florida. "The real problem is our leaders are dumb." Trump says Putin must think he "can take over a whole country" with only the minimal consequence of sanctions from NATO leaders. SOUNDBITE
