Google Home Just Became Your Personal Sous Chef

Description

Google Home may be the perfect trainer to get you prepped for a Food Network competition show. The smart speaker is today adding recipes to the mix, allowing users to follow step-by-step instructions for over five million recipes read out by Google Assistant. You'll first need to locate recipes through Google Assistant or search, then hit the 'Send to Google Home' button to shuttle the instructions to your speaker. Recipes are saved wherever you are, so you don't need to be home to earmark these digital cookbook pages. If you don't have a specific recipe in mind, you can also have Google look up how to make a dish for you. Google Home will continue to function as normal while you're slicing and dicing, so you can play music, ask questions, and set timers, too. Recipes are rolling out over the coming week, Google says, so don't be discouraged if you can't call up the feature just yet.

  • How To Sidestep Buying Expensive Home Warranties

The average homeowner spends anywhere from 1% to 4% of their home's purchase price on maintenance every year. That can make home warranties appealing. But a home warranty's fine print can translate into it not always coming through when you need it to. So when Business Insider contributor Choncé Maddox got burned by her home warranty company skating out of some pricey repairs, she turned the tables. Instead of paying for another warranty, she put the same $500 she would have spent on it into a high-yield savings account for home maintenance. If a new air conditioner costs $2,000 to $3,000, she can come up with the money a lot quicker without paying for a warranty! Also, she and her husband took it upon themselves to learn how to take care of the valuable systems in their home. Hooray for YouTube!

  • Get Out The Rabbit Ears, Because It's Time To Think About Cutting The Cord

Trying to cut the fat from the household budget is nothing new, and one strategy is to 'cut the cord' by getting rid of cable TV. But unless you can get your TV from a roof antenna, you'll have to have cheap, fast internet to stream your programs. According to TechNewsWorld.com, cutting the cable TV cord is a mixed bag for most people. You'll probably just lower your TV bill by streaming, rather than saving a ton of money. On the other hand, you can bounce from free trials to low-cost offerings to find the ideal solution. Most streaming services don't require contracts, so you can explore different options depending on your viewing habits and your family's needs.

Angelina Murphy paid off $100,000 in debt in just a year by making very smart money moves in her business. She says her default setting is as an artist, not a businesswoman. However, using a budget for the first time reined in her spending. According to Business Insider, the Seattle-area resident had three keys to her success: a niche market, expertise, and location. Her specialty, high-end, business offers luxury hair extensions to women with thinning hair or hair that won't grow very long. She's also very good at her job and invests in her ongoing professional development. Finally, Murphy keeps her expenses low by using her own garage as her location, instead of a pricey retail salon!
