Renault revealed its new driverless concept vehicle called the EZ-GO at the Geneva International Motor Show on Tuesday. EZ-GO is a Level 4 driverless vehicle, so it can change lanes, turn at an intersection, and keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front of it. Users will be able to access the EZ-GO from an app or from fixed locations and will enter through a hatch which opens at the front of the vehicle, which also make the auto wheelchair accessible. The EZ-GO can accomodate up to 6 people at a time and features a U-shaped seating arrangement, making the ride a social experience.
The first self-driving delivery robot roamed the streets of Austin during the city's SXSW festival, on Monday. The robot, produced by former Skype founders Starship, can deliver food, groceries and small packages for as little as $1 within a 1 mile radius. The six-wheeled robot is able to deliver items up to 3 miles over a period of up to 30 minutes while users are able to follow the robot's route via the smartphone app. The inventors feel confident that the robot's movements are safe for pedestrians and traffic. The delivery robot is already operational in over 60 cities in 5 different countries and its models have already traveled a combined 20,000 miles. Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn unveiled details of the latest model of the second-generation Nissan Leaf at the Consumer Electronics Show 2017 and introduced the company's new system for handling self-driving cars, dubbed Seamless Autonomous Mobility, or SAM. Developed with NASA tech, SAM is set to connect the autonomous vehicle with human support at a control centre in a bid to deal with unexpected situations that the car's internal system cannot handle alone.
Volkswagen presented their new electric car, dubbed the I.D., at the 2016 Paris Motor Show at the Porte de Versailles exhibition centre on Wednesday. The I.D. is expected to be available to consumers in 2020 and Volkswagen has announced that an autonomous driving option will become available in 2025. The five-door hatchback with rear-wheel drive has an electric motor positioned at its tail, freeing up space at the front of the vehicle and providing a motor output of 168 horsepower. The car is expected to be able to travel between 250 to 375 miles on a single charge and has options for wired and wireless fast charging capabilities.
