Biggest Box Office Losers Of 2016

Description

For some movies, 2016 was a big year at the box office. In fact, Disney set a new record by making $7 billion dollars in ticket sales this year; not surprising when you look at the studio's sheer level of output. However, there were some that didn't quite achieve the same level of success. For example, the MGM-financed Ben-Hur remake cost a whopping $110 million to make. Both domestically and internationally, the Biblical epic returned only 94.1 of that 110 million dollars. The second biggest loser of the year was not only produced, in part, by the record-breaking Disney, but was directed by a Hollywood mainstay. Steven Spielberg's "The BFG," an adaptation of the Roald Dahl novel, is estimated to have lost partners Disney, Amblin Entertainment and Participant Media 90 to 100 million dollars. Other losers this year include ancient action romp Gods of Egypt and Grimm fairy tale spinoff Huntsman: Winter's War. Huntsman: Winter's War could also win an award for Clumsiest Title, if it hasn't already.
