Dylann Roof Receives Death Penalty for Charleston Church Shooting

Description

On Tuesday, Dylann Roof was sentenced to death for fatally shooting nine black church members during a Bible study session in June 2015. A jury deliberated for about three hours before making their decision, ending a process during which the 22-year-old white supremacist did not show any remorse for his actions. Hours before the final decision was made, Roof threw away one last chance to plead for his life, telling jurors, "I still feel like I had to do it." The jury who made the ruling on Tuesday also convicted Roof in December of all 33 federal charges he faced, including hate crimes.
