Between 2008 and 2012, there was a fairly good run of films that scored decent box-office numbers over Super Bowl weekend, a weekend that was once considered a no-go zone. Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour and Taken are two of the biggest Super Bowl weekend openers, grossing $31 million and $24 million, respectively, over their opening weekends.

    Acclaimed director M. Night Shyamalan took over Twitter Wednesday morning, as he released a string of important announcements regarding his next film. Among them, he revealed that many of his classic characters from both Unbreakable, and Split, would return for the new movie. Shyamalan began by announcing that his new film is called Glass, and that it will serve as both a sequel to Split and Unbreakable. Glass will hit theatres on January 18th, 2019.

  • ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Producer Signs Deal With CBS Studios

    “Star Trek: Discovery,” executive producer Alex Kurtzman has signed an overall deal with CBS TV Studios, TheWrap has learned. Under the agreement, CBS will have exclusive rights to produce all television content created and developed by Kurtzman’s new company, Secret Hideout, which is producing “Discovery.” Kurtzman’s new deal comes after he split with his longtime producing partner Roberto Orci and their K/O Paper Products banner. Heather Kadin, formerly of K/O, will join Secret Hideout as president of television. Kadin previously worked at Warner Bros. and ABC, where she was instrumental in the development and production of such hit series as “Lost,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” and “Alias.” Shows that were formerly produced under K/O — “Hawaii Five-0” (CBS), “Sleepy Hollow” (Fox), and “Scorpion” (CBS) –will continue production under Secret Hideout. Kadin will continue to serve as an executive producer on “Sleepy Hollow,” “Scorpion,” and “Discovery” in her new role. Former vice president of television at K/O Paper Products, Aaron Baiers, will also stay on with Secret Hideout as vice president of television, where he will serve as a producer for “Discovery.” “David Stapf and his team have been incredibly supportive and tremendous creative collaborators,” Kurtzman and Kadin said. “As Secret Hideout begins to develop and produce new properties and ideas and as the landscape of television evolves, we are thrilled to be working alongside them for the next four years.”

  • U.S. Secret Service Going Broke Due to Trump

    According to USA Today, due to Donald Trump's constant travel schedule, over 1,000 agents for the U.S. Secret Service have already hit their salary and overtime caps for the entire year. The paper says this is due to Trump’s decision to split time between multiple residences and the White House as well as vacation frequently, with each of the trips costing a small fortune. Trump's administration has also placed 42 people under Secret Service protection, 18 of which are family members. The issue is said to be so serious that Secret Service Director Randolph Alles has begun discussions with US lawmakers to raise salary and overtime cap for agents.

    M. Night Shyamalan's "Split" is a horror hit with a surprisingly strong $40.2 million in its opening weekend. "Split," starring James McAvoy as a man with 24 different personalities, performed above expectations for Universal and Blumhouse. Shyamalan produced and directed the film from his own script in which McAvoy's multiple characters capture three young women and hold them hostage.
