Seventy one people, including three foreign nationals and six crew members, were killed when Saratov Airlines flight 6W703 crashed shortly after take-off. The plane was flying to the city of Orsk when it vanished from radar screens shortly after it took off from Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport, before crashing some 50 miles south-east of the capital. According to the Russian Transport Ministry a special committee is investigating the cause of the deadly crash.
A plane flying from Melbourne to Australia's King Island crashed into a shopping centre in Essendon, a suburb of northern Melbourne on Tuesday, killing all five people on board, including the pilot, shortly after taking off from Melbourne's Essendon Airport around 9 AM local time on Tuesday. According to local police, The twin-engine Beechcraft B200 Super King Air is suspected to have suffered engine failure. The plane crashed into the back of a furniture store and a JB Hi-Fi store in the DFO shopping centre, leaving the parking area in flames and killing the pilot, identified as US citizen Max Quartermain, and all four passengers, who have also been identified as US citizens. Pilot Max Quartermain was the co-owner of Corporate and Leisure Aviation, the company which operated the plane. He had a perfect 38-year safety record. According to unconfirmed reports, there were no casualties on the ground. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau is investigating the incident.

Texas police stated that three people have died after two small aircraft collided in the air over the city of McKinney on Saturday. The two aircraft, a Piper PA-28R and a Luscombe, crashed into each other near the Aero County Airport. One plane went down near a storage facility while the crashed on a busy road near a commercial district of the city. The Aero County airport is a small regional airport that does not have air traffic control - pilots are required to announce landings and takeoffs via radio. Police and fire services cleared Custer Road from Virginia to Bedford as they worked on the scene of the crash. An investigation into the exact circumstances of the crash is ongoing.
