The Pentagon has upped the number of National Guard members it wants present at President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration by 4,000. CNN reports the Pentagon on Friday authorized up to 25,000 National Guard members, marking an increase from the 21,000 troops authorized a day earlier. Law enforcement in Washington, DC, and around the country is bracing for more extremist violence after the deadly insurrection at the Capitol last week. The DOD announced Tuesday that Guardsmen and women will be armed. Law enforcement is monitoring phones and other communications in an all-out effort to track individuals to ensure they do not travel to Washington.
Mar-a-Lago is President Donald Trump's private club in Palm Beach, Florida. Business Insider reports that Mar-a-lago is the First Family's "gilded getaway." It's where the Trumps are widely speculated to retreat to following Trump's exit from office. Trump's neighbors aren't thrilled at the prospect of the former President moving in next door. The luxe property was closed for about 57 days amid the coronavirus pandemic. It has previously hosted visitors like the prime minister of Japan.

Hoping to sway the votes of independent, undecided, and moderate Republicans, they've spent millions on campaign ads to oust Trump from the White House. Former DHS chief of staff Miles Taylor called working under Trump 'terrifying," saying many things Trump wanted the department to do were illegal. Former White House communications director, Anthony Scaramucci, says he'll be voting for Biden. And former national security adviser John Bolton won't be voting for Trump or Biden. Instead, he'll write in the name of a conservative candidate.
Dr. Anthony Fauci is in hot water with the White House for speaking out in an interview, published Saturday, about the state of COVID-19 cases in the US. The director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases warned that the US needed to make an 'abrupt change' in its handling of the pandemic. White House spokesperson Judd Deere sternly rebuked Fauci for making 'his political leanings known by praising the president's opponent.' Business Insider reports that for the first time since the outset of the pandemic, the US logged nearly 100,000 new cases of COVID-19 in a single day. President Donald Trump has continued to falsely blame the rise in cases on a rise in testing--and media coverage.
