With Aleppo under a daytime ceasefire, the United Nations is warning that the ongoing seige and bombardment of the city may constitute war crimes. Nathan Frandino reports.
The top United Nations human rights official, Zeid Ra'ad al Hussein, said on Friday that the siege and bombing of eastern Aleppo in Syria amounted to war crimes although he did not specifically name Russia, whose war planes have carried out weeks of air strikes on the rebel-held part of Aleppo along with the Syrian air force. The United States says that Sudan's rival forces have both committed war crimes in their brutal conflict, accusing the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces of ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity. The two sides "must end this brutal conflict... must comply with their obligations under international humanitarian law, international human rights law," says State Department spokesman Matthew Miller.
