Thousands of fans filled Conda Arena stadium in Brazil's Chapeco on Wednesday to pay tribute to the Chapecoense football players and staff that died in the fatal plane crash over Colombia on Monday evening. Travelling from Santa Cruz, Bolivia, the aircraft had been carrying 77 people, including the Brazilian Chapecoense football team, at the time of the crash. The team was set to play against Atletico Nacional in the Copa Sudamericana finals in Medellin, Wednesday. 6 people, including three players, two members of the crew, and one journalist, have survived the crash.
Emergency services continued searching the wreckage of the fatal plane crash near El Cerro Gordo in Colombia on Tuesday. Travelling from Santa Cruz, Bolivia, the aircraft had been carrying 77 people, including the Brazilian Chapecoense football team, at the time of the crash. The British Aerospace 146 short-haul aircraft it went down at 8 PM local time. The flight's destination, Jose Maria Cordova International Airport near Medellin, stated that they received an emergency call from the plane about electrical failures while flying over the municipalities of La Ceja and La Union before losing contact. Some 22 football players from the Brazilian team were aboard the flight, with a further 22 sports journalists onboard. The investigation has revealed that the plane did not explode on impact, leading investigators to focus on why the plane had such a small amount of fuel. The black boxes were recovered in good condition and the investigation is ongoing.
