Clay Clark is a podcast host and ardent supporter of President Donald Trump. Speaking at a rally held Tuesday in Washington, DC, Clark apparently thought having a 'mass-spreader event' was a good thing. According to HuffPost, Clark told attendees at the event in Freedom Plaza that COVID-19 was a hoax. He then invited them hug each other. Turn to the person next to you and give them a hug, someone you don’t know. Go hug somebody. Go ahead and spread it out, mass spreader. It’s a mass-spreader event! In the past two days, the US has reported more than 220,000 positive coronavirus tests. The new cases bring the past week's total to more than 660,000 new cases of COVID-19. The US reported more than 121,000 new coronavirus infections Thursday. The staggering number broke the daily case record of over 100,000 cases t set just 24 hours ago. According to CNN, Wednesday marked the first time the US hit a six-figure number of infections. As cases soar, the number of hospitalized Americans is surging, with more than 53,000 patients across the US.
Former Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg lashed out at the eldest son of President Donald Trump on Friday. On Thursday, Donald Trump Jr. falsely minimized the deaths related to coronavirus, telling Fox News the Trump administration had the pandemic under control. Cases and deaths from the novel coronavirus in the US are rising rapidly. The US broke its single-day coronavirus case record last week with over 88,000 new COVID-19 cases in a single day, in addition to over 1,000 deaths. Business Insider reports Buttigieg criticized Trump Jr. for being 'out of touch' when he said US coronavirus deaths are down to 'almost nothing.' Researchers from Stanford University estimate President Donald Trump's series of campaign rallies have functioned as COVID-19 superspreader events. HuffPost reports Stanford University researchers say the events led to thousands of more cases and hundreds of more deaths than would have occurred otherwise. Though not necessarily among attendees, more than 30,000 new confirmed coronavirus cases and more than 700 deaths, arose because of the gatherings. HuffPost reports that among the 18 events studied, three of them ― in Tulsa, Oklahoma; Phoenix; and Henderson, Nevada ― took place indoors; the rest happened outdoors. Photos and video from Trump’s events showed that few attendees wore masks to help prevent the spread of the highly contagious disease. The Stanford findings appeared to back up one Oklahoma health official who suggested that the president’s rally contributed to a spike in COVID-19 cases around Tulsa in late June and early July. Data suggests that for every person who dies of COVID-19, they leave behind nine family members. According to HuffPost, that means nearly 2 million people in the US theoretically have experienced the death of a close relative due to the disease. It's easy to be triggered by the news, especially when COVID-19-positive President Donald Trump turns it into a campaign photo op. If you're feeling overwhelmed with grief and frustration, mental health experts encourage taking action. Grieve openly. Reach out to friends and family, and turn off the TV. Know that what you're feeling is natural and normal, and be kind to yourself.
