Italy's beaches prepare for domestic tourism

Description

Ostia (Italy), May 21 (EFE), (Camera: Jorge Ortiz).- The seaside town of Ostia in Italy is preparing to reopen despite tthe current lack of tourists.FOOTAGE OF OSTIA, BEACHES AND RESTAURANTS.SOUNDBITES OF:1- Roberto and Rosalba, locals:“It is the first day we are close to the sea. I see it very clean, there is a type of freedom that we missed, we misssed it."2- Valentina and Simone, unemployed:“Today it seems that we are almost back to normal. After so many months not being able to go to the beach, today seeing people walking, the sea... It is a beautiful feeling. It gives the idea that something is improving”.3- Silvana Maria, businesswoman: “We have the booths with showers inside. Many people have canceled because of fear or money, because they have not worked in 3 months, so everything is going to fall this year. I have 12 workers and I don't know if I will have to send someone home, to fire someone. If there is no work, what can I do? ”4- Roberto, restaurant owner:“Many of us have not opened yet in a bid to avoid increasing expenses due to a lack of profit. Thanks god we have friends who know us, are supportive and are already coming to see us... I used to put up to 15 tables on this terrace. Now I can put 9, almost half. It is clear that with this problem in Italy and the whole world of lack of liquidity, sales will clearly suffer. Hopefully not much, but we know there will be a decrease in profits."5- Giorgio Gastaldi, craft store owner“We also depend on tourism. Now we hope that we can work thanks tp those visitors that come from Rome. There are 3 million inhabitants there, and they are expected to go on vacation not to distant places but places like Ostia due to proximity. We look forward to this tourism. We hope local tourism can make up for the lack of international tourism."
