  • Wine into Water - Does Vino Really Age Better Underwater?

You may have heard of the Biblical legend of Jesus turning water into wine, well one Spanish winery is also trying to be legendary by doing the exact opposite. This diving team was organized by Viña Alondra Winery from Spain for a very unique underwater mission. The winery plans to submerge 250 of its bottles under this reservior, and then sell them A total of 250 bottles of wine were taken out to the middle of the reservoir by raft and submerged to a depth of 65 feet as part of a pioneering project in wine aging in Spain's Avila on Sunday. The bottles will remain underwater for six months in metal cages when the winery will send another dive team to retrieve them and test them for flavor and other quality indicators of good wine. If all goes according to plan, Viña Alondra Winery may become of the first winemakers to sell wine that has been aged underwater.
