UK unemployment rises as more job cuts loom

Description

The UK's unemployment rate has risen, despite a government support scheme to protect the workforce. Unions have warned of a 'tsunami' of job cuts in the coming months, as the furlough programme comes to an end. Also in today's show - the World Trade Organization rules US tariffs on China are illegal, and low-cost airlines further slash prices to entice travelers.

    Tokyo, Jun 29 (EFE/EPA).- Japan's unemployment rate stood at 3 percent in May, representing an increase of two tenths compared to the previous month, the government reported Tuesday.According to data published by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, the number of people unemployed in Japan in the fifth month of 2021 was 2.11 million people, representing a year-on-year increase of 130,000 people or 6.6 percent.Compared to the previous month, the number of unemployed people increased by 20,000 people, or 1 percent.   • Bosch, SAM foundry employees strike over planned job cuts in France

    In Rodez, just outside the southern French town of Toulouse, Bosch employees and those of the Jinjiang SAM foundry stage a joint demonstration over planned job cuts. The German group announced Friday it will cut 750 jobs in its Rodez Bosch factory by 2025.
