San Francisco, Sep 9 (EFE).- The skies over the San Francisco Bay Area on Wednesday turned foreboding dark orange as historic wildfires across California sent thick smoke into the air. More than 40 wildfires are burning on Wednesday in California, 20 of them designated by authorities to be "big fires," in the state's worst-ever fire season.In all, more than 7,600 fires have been detected in California since the beginning of the year, and up to September some 2.3 million acres of forest and grassland have burned, according to the latest tally by the office of Gov. A huge wildfire broke out in the hills near Santa Paula, California on Monday. It's rapid spread is helped along by gusts sweeping through the area at 50 miles per hour. At least 27,000 have been evacuated as of Tuesday. One person was killed when their car rolled over as they attempted to evacuate. California Governor Jerry Brown has declared a state of emergency for Venture County. Over 1,100 firefighter have gathered to battle the blaze.
