After numerous teases, Audi is finally ready to reveal its first mass-market electric car to the world. The 2019 Audi e-tron is an SUV aimed at the Tesla Model X, but it will also do battle with the Jaguar I-Pace and Mercedes-Benz EQC when it arrives on U.S. shores next year. The exterior styling is fairly standard SUV, giving little hint of the electric powertrain underneath. Despite choosing an SUV body rather than a more slippery sedan shape, Audi claims aerodynamic efficiency was a priority. Everything from the design of the standard 20-inch wheels to recessed screw connection points was done to cheat the wind, according to Audi. The e-tron’s drag coefficient of 0.28 is better than an I-Pace’s 0.29, but not as good as a Model X’s 0.25.
This wild concept car is the new Audi PB 18 e-tron concept which debuted today during the 2018 Monterey Car Week and is actually the automaker’s first exhibition of a concept car during the annual festivities. They’re definitely making it count, as the PB 18 e-tron is an incredible attempt to fuse the world of Audi’s successful Le Mans-winning prototypes to a production car. It features some pretty wild technology including a solid-state battery and a mix of light-weight materials like aluminum and carbon fiber. In contrast to many of the other concepts and debuts found throughout the industry, Audi claims this is a “Level Zero” on the SAE scale of automated vehicles, basically suggesting that this is an enthusiast-oriented, driver-focused vehicle. It has no heavy technology that assists with driving or comfort, and the driver’s seat can actually be moved to the center of the cockpit. That’s possible due to the steer and throttle by wire system which allows for the repositioning of the driver’s seat and controls. When the seat is slid all the way to the side, it can allow for a passenger, as there is a three-point seatbelt for safety.
Audi continues its model initiative in the luxury class: following the new Audi A8 and the new Audi A7, the premium brand now introduces the next generation of the Audi A6. Whether in terms of digitalization, comfort or sportiness – the elegantly sculptured sedan is the all-round talent in its segment. Audi is also unveiling the prototype of its first purely electrically powered model in Geneva. The sporty SUV offers the space and comfort of a typical luxury car together with a range suitable for longer journeys. With the new A6, Audi presents the eighth generation of its successful luxury sedan. The high-tech yet elegant model introduces numerous innovations into the segment and is more versatile than ever before. The Audi e-tron prototype offers a preview of the first all-electric model from the brand with the four rings. Camouflaged with a specially developed design film, it showcases the high-voltage drive system. The electrifying exterior conceals a sporty premium SUV with space for five people along with plenty of luggage – the space and comfort are similar to that of a typical Audi luxury class model.

It is an Audi such as the world has never seen before: With the e-tron GT, the brand is demonstrating its plans for shaping an emotive and fascinating future of mobility. Presales of two models of the gran turismo with fully electric drive will start simultaneously in February 2021: the e-tron GT quattro and the RS e-tron GT. Both models are powerful, fast, and dynamic, and both have zero local emissions. The sum of these qualities adds up to a strong character that reinterprets the idea of the gran turismo.The exterior of the Audi e-tron GT is a dynamic work of art. Each surface and each line is harmonious, from the headlights, which are available with Audi laser light upon request, to the large diffuser at the rear. In combination, the details create a sculpture that looks like it was shaped by the wind. The body line is extremely aerodynamic, and the drag coefficient is just 0.24. The interior also corresponds to that of a classic gran turismo: The driver and front passenger seats are installed in a sporty low position and separated by a wide center console, and the rear seats provide sufficient space even for adults. The progressive elegance of the interior design emphasizes the car’s character.
