Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a statue of Indian independence leader Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in the western state of Gujarat. The 182 metre-tall bronze-clad Statue of Unity is thought to be the tallest in the world, standing twice as high as the US Statue of Liberty. It cost an estimated $420 million (€370.5 million) and has been under construction for four years.
The world’s longest sea crossing, which connects Hong Kong, Zhuhai and Macao, has now opened to the public. The bridge spans over 55 km (34 miles) and includes 23 km of bridges, 6.7 km of tunnels, and two artificial islands. The new construction cuts the time of road travel between Hong Kong and Zhuhai from four hours to just 40 minutes. However, drivers can only access the bridge after receiving a special permit from the authorities.
This 30,000 square-foot building is Shanghai's new Starbucks Reserve Roastery, the largest Starbucks in the world. Seattle-based Starbucks opened the doors to its biggest ever shop in Shanghai on Wednesday, which features three brew bars, augmented reality tech, lavish design, and coffee, lots of coffee. The spacious 'reserve roastery,' which can serve up to 7,000 customers a day and up to 1,000 people at one time, is the second of its type in the world, after Starbucks opened its first version in Seattle in 2014.
Chinese solar power company Panda Green Energy recently opened the most adorable green energy solar power plant in the shape of China's national animal, the beloved panda bear. The unique shape of the huge solar farm can only be seen from the air, as shown in drone footage from Datong filmed on Tuesday. Panda Green Energy used a combination of darker monocrystalline silicon and white thin film solar cells to create the unique shape, in what is a world's first for solar farms.
The worlds biggest indoor ski resort opened it's doors to lovers of downhill winter sports last weekend in Harbin, China's 'Ice City' located on the border with Russia. The Harbin Wanda Indoor Ski and Winter Resort covers an area of over 860,000 square feet and boasts six different runs, with the longest stretching 1640 feet, the fourth longest in the world. Up to 3000 people can enjoy the facilities at any one time. Wang Jianlin, who is China's wealthist businessman, invested 40 billion yuan, or just under 6 billion dollars, to build the facility.
