College campuses across the U.S. are seeing a surge in COVID-19 cases. More than half of colleges across the country reported "spikes" in positive coronavirus cases. According to UPI, the data suggests that students and others may be "super-spreaders". Since the start of the pandemic, many colleges and universities across the country closed their campuses. Researchers say the data "confirm the widespread fear in early fall that colleges could become the new hot spots".

One of the few bright spots of the coronavirus pandemic has been among children. Although severe illness and death have occurred, most children are spared the most serious outcomes. Studies have shown that nearly 1/3 of kids with the virus have no symptoms at all. The latter group has been of particular interest to researchers and policymakers, reports HuffPost. Children age 12 years and younger infected with COVID-19 are proving to be super spreaders. They pass the virus to other members of their households more than half of the time, says UPI. This is according to data released Friday by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Teens aged 12 to 17 years infected others in their households nearly 40% of the time,. The findings are based on an analysis of the household contacts of 101 "index cases" of COVID-19. The study pulls from Tennessee and Wisconsin cases between April and September.
