CVS Health named Aetna President Karen Lynch as the company's new CEO. She will become CEO in February 2021. CVS Health ranks fifth on the Fortune 500, the company will become the largest one led by a woman. CVS Health bought Aetna in 2018 for $70 billion. In a chat with Business Insider, Lynch told Lydia Ramsey Pflanzer her vision for Aetna was to help members manage their health using CVS Pharmacy or MinuteClinic.
County health authorities issued an emergency stay-in-place order for University of Michigan. Undergrad students have been found to make up more than 60% of local COVID-19 cases. It’s meant to slow the coronavirus infection rate and allow for better contact tracing, health officials said. Loveluck’s order said the surge “at or near the Ann Arbor campus is driven by social gatherings”. These gathering ignore state and local health guidelines, reports HuffPost. The state on Monday set a new record, reporting an average of 1,818 new cases.
CVS is hiring 15,000 new staff to prepare for an expected rise in COVID-19 cases during the colder months. The hirings will include more than 10,000 pharmacy technicians, who will dispense medicines and administer COVID-19 tests. The pharmacy techs may even be able administer vaccines, if the government authorizes proposed healthcare changes backed by CVS. Business Insider reports that CVS is also hiring "several thousand" full-time customer service roles that will be carried out remotely.
