Translation:"Today we began the sterilization of the archaeological area of the pyramids with material approved by the Ministry of Health, we gave the cleaning workers. The necessary precautions have been taken for the sterilizing material. We have begun sterilization from the entrance of the archaeological site; the visitor reception door, X-Ray devices and the ticket office. We have completely sterilized the entrance of the area to the wooden corridor in front of the great pyramid. The sterilization process will continue during the next period. We are using this suspension to prepare the archaeological complex for maintenance and restoration so that when tourism returns, the archaeological area of the pyramids is in its most splendid image to receive its visitors. The monument has a specific form of sterilization with specific material used by a team of restorers specialized in this process. The sterilisation is external; of tourist routes, roads, buildings and administrative facilities only. "

  • Blast Hits Tourists Visiting Egypt's Pyramids

    REuters reports An explosion targeting a tourist bus injured at least 12 people on Sunday, mostly South African tourists, near a new museum being built close to the Giza pyramids in Egypt. A security source said the bus was carrying 25 South African tourists from the airport to the pyramids area, and that four Egyptians in a nearby car were also injured by broken glass. Security and judicial sources said a rudimentary device containing nails and pieces of metal had been detonated remotely on the perimeter of the Grand Egyptian Museum, not far from the site of a roadside blast that hit another tourist bus in December.
