It was in September 2019 that the new electric sports car from Porsche celebrated its high-profile premiere on three continents simultaneously. Now, the company is already presenting the third version of the sports saloon with the Porsche Taycan 4S. The new model is available with two battery sizes and delivers with the Performance battery up to 390 kW (530 PS) or with the Performance battery Plus up to 420 kW (571 PS). Following the Taycan Turbo S and the Taycan Turbo, the Porsche Taycan 4S is therefore the new entry-level model in the series. A single-deck Performance battery with a total capacity of 79.2 kWh comes as standard. The two-deck Performance battery Plus familiar from the Taycan Turbo S and Taycan Turbo is optionally available. The total capacity here is 93.4 kWh.The power output and range therefore vary correspondingly: with the Performance battery, the Taycan 4S generates up to 390 kW (530 PS) overboost power output. Equipped with the Performance battery Plus, it delivers up to 420 kW (571 PS). In both variants, the Porsche Taycan 4S accelerates from a standing start to 100 km/h in 4.0 seconds. The top speed is also 250 km/h in both cases. The range is up to 407 kilometres with the Performance battery and up to 463 kilometres with the Performance battery Plus (in accordance with WLTP in each case) - the highest value of the current Taycan range. The maximum charging capacity (peak) is 225 kW (Performance battery) or 270 kW (Performance battery Plus).

Breathtaking acceleration values, typical sports car pulling power and superior, permanently available power - the new 4S also has these strengths of the Taycan. The permanently excited synchronous machine on the rear axle, with an active length of 130 millimeters, is exactly 80 millimeters shorter than the corresponding drive component of the Taycan Turbo S and Taycan Turbo. With two permanently excited synchronous machines on the front and rear axles, i.e. all-wheel drive, as well as a two-speed gearbox on the rear axle, the 4S has the main technical highlights of its model brothers in terms of drive architecture. The same applies to the intelligent charge management and the exemplary aerodynamics. With a drag coefficient of 0.22 or more, it makes a decisive contribution to low energy consumption and thus a long range.With its clear, purist design, the Taycan signals the beginning of a new age. At the same time, it unmistakably carries the Porsche design DNA. From the front it looks particularly wide and flat, with strongly arched fenders. The silhouette is determined by the sporty, sloping roof line. The side section with its strong, sculptural shape is also characteristic. The slim cabin, the retracted D-pillar and the pronounced shoulders of the fenders lead to a strong, brand-typical emphasis on the rear. There are also innovative elements such as the Porsche logo in glass look, which is integrated into the strip of lights at the rear.
The Porsche Taycan is the first production vehicle with 800-volt technology. Its drive system components use this voltage. At the same power output, half the cross-section of conventional 400-volt technology is sufficient for cables. In the Taycan, this saves around four kilograms in weight, reduces transmission losses and requires less installation space. The new generation of charging stations developed by Porsche Engineering Services GmbH under the name “Porsche Charging” is designed for 800-volt technology. This significantly shortens charging times because higher power outputs can be achieved. However, the vehicle components and in particular the battery (cooling) must also be appropriately adapted.
With the standard Performance Battery, the new entry-level model delivers up to 300 kW (408 PS; Taycan with Performance Battery: Fuel consumption combined 0 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined 0 g/km, Electricity consumption combined 28.0 kwh/100 km) in overboost mode with Launch Control; this increases to an output of up to 350 kW (476 PS; Taycan with Performance Battery Plus: Fuel consumption combined 0 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined 0 g/km, Electricity consumption combined 28.7 kwh/100 km) with the optional Performance Battery Plus. Nominal power is 240 kW (326 PS) or 280 kW (380 PS) respectively.As the youngest member of the model family, the Taycan includes, right from the start, the new features introduced in the other versions at the model year changeover. For instance, the Plug & Charge function enables convenient charging and payments without the need for cards or an app: as soon as the charging cable is plugged in, the Taycan establishes encrypted communication with the Plug & Charge-compatible charging station. The charging process then starts automatically. Payments are also processed automatically.
