Lindsey Graham, it would be a jolt to Democrats across the country. According to Business Insider, the Senate race has become part of the expanded Democratic calculus for winning a Senate majority. Surveys conducted by Morning Consult and Quinnipiac University show the race as either tied or with one candidate holding a small lead. Graham will return to the Senate for a fourth term after defeating Democratic challenger Jaime Harrison. South Carolina is a conservative state that hasn't elected a Democrat to the Senate since 1998. CNN has also projected that President Donald Trump will win the state's 9 electoral votes. Graham serves as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Graham pushed through Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett's confirmation just days before the election. Graham had said previously that he would not appoint a Supreme Court judge during an election year.
In the critical runoff election in Georgia, Democrat Jon Ossoff is vying to oust the incumbent Republican Sen. David Perdue. Now, Business Insider reports Ossoff has become the highest-funded candidate for Senate in US history. The Federal Election Commission says Ossoff raised $106.7 million between October 15 and December 16. The Democrat Rev. Raphael Warnock is running against GOP Sen. Kelly Loeffler. He raised $103.3 million during the same time. The race has drawn national attention because the victors will determine whether Republicans maintain control of the Senate.
Rep. Jim Clyburn is one of the most respected members of the congress. He's a Democratic powerhouse who is credited with resurrecting Joe Biden's struggling Presidential campaign. According to Business Insider, Democrats won the White House but had substantial losses in the House and Senate. Clyburn says the Democrats loss were because of calls to "defund the police." Clyburn specifically referenced Jaime Harrison, the challenger to Sen. Lindsey Graham who lost the South Carolina Senate race.
