More Organs Available Because Of Opioid Crisis

A bittersweet upside to the Opioid crisis is that more organs are available for transplant. 14 percent or people who donated organs in 2016 had died from opioid overdose. This is a huge difference from the 1 percent of opioid overdose, organ donors in 2000. “This shift accounted for much of the increase in organ transplantation activity over the past five years in the United States,” Study Researcher Fortunately, opioid overdoses do not effect the organs so they are safe to use as transplants.
