Tour De France Temporarily Derailed By Police After Accidental Release Of Tear Gas

French farmers staged a protest during Stage 16 of the Tour de France. The protest was reportedly over reduced funding from the European Union. Farmers tossed hay bales onto the road and brought the race to a halt for 15 minutes. Police subdued protestors with tear gas and pepper spray, reports Deadspin. The police accidentally wound up dousing the peloton. Nobody was seriously injured in the clash, but many riders had to wash out their eyes.
