Judge Blocks ICE From Deporting NYC Delivery Man

Description

A New York City man who recently ended up with a deportation order after making a food delivery to a military base has been granted an emergency stay by a federal judge. According to Newser, the stay gives Pablo Villavicencio relief from being returned to Ecuador until July 20, though he'll remain in ICE custody. Villavicencio, a father of two who's married to an American citizen, has a green card application pending. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has also written letters on Villavicencio's behalf to both ICE and the DHS, praising him as "a working father, a taxpayer, and the primary provider for his family."

  • Federal Judge Demands USPS's DeJoy Appear And Explain Himself

A federal judge is demanding that US Postmaster General Louis DeJoy appears in court to explain himself. Business Insider reports Judge Emmet Sullivan made the remark in hearing a case brought by the NAACP and other civil rights groups. The plaintiffs have been trying to get the US postal service to deliver mail-in ballots in a timely manner. The purpose of Wednesday's hearing was to grill the USPS on its noncompliance with Judge Sullivan's previous orders. Sullivan ordered the USPS on Tuesday to reexamine mailing locations in 15 states and ensure that any found ballots would be delivered before polls closed. The Postal Service said it wouldn't comply with the order and would keep its own schedule, which would finish its sweep by 8 p.m. on Tuesday. Expressing his fury at the USPS's performance throughout the pandemic, Sullivan accused the USPS of slow-walking responses to his orders. The postmaster's going to have to be deposed or appear before me. Judge Emmet Sullivan

  • Astronomers Say The Man In The Moon Has Far More To Drink Than Previously Thought

Scientists used to say there were millions of tons of ice in the permanently shadowed craters of the moon’s poles. Now, HuffPost reports a pair of studies in the journal Nature Astronomy says there's far, far more potential water available. Twenty percent more, to be exact. A team led by the University of Colorado's Paul Hayne says more than 15,400 square miles of lunar terrain have the capability to trap water in the form of ice. However, lead researcher Casey Honniball says the molecules are so far apart that they are in neither liquid nor solid form. To be clear, this is not puddles of water. Casey Honniball, Lead Researcher Postdoctoral fellow, NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, Maryland Greater access to water could allow astronauts and robots more places to land, and support future lunar bases. Scientists believe the moon's water came from comets, asteroids, interplanetary dust, solar wind, or even lunar volcanic eruptions.
