Several impromptu animal shelters have opened in northern California to help people evacuated from areas affected by devastating wildfires to house their pets. Animal shelters at Napa Valley College and Crosswalk Community Church allow pets like cats and dogs to stay with their owners or in a separate room. Fifteen separate wildfires raging in Northern California have killed at least 23 people, destroyed over 3,500 properties, and scorched over 122,000 acres of land. Over 8,000 firefighters and 120 aircraft continue to battle the blazes.
A new documentary, "Fire Chasers", seeks to depict the power of the blazes responsible for millions of acres of ruined U.S. land each year.
