President Donald Trump is unhappy with the election results, According to multiple reports has recently toyed with the idea of using the military to overturn the election results. The idea alarmed many, including Elizabeth Neumann, a former official in the Trump-era Department of Homeland Security. Neumann argued that the right-wing extremists could interpret such talk as a signal from Trump to enact violence. She said that such groups "look at this as a dog whistle." Trump's enthusiasm for using his emergency powers to reverse his loss to Joe Biden has rattled even some of his usual allies.
Axios reports that President-elect Joe Biden is considering former South Bend, Indiana, mayor Pete Buttigieg to be his China ambassador. Buttigieg was one of Biden's rivals for the Democratic presidential nomination. He endorsed and campaigned for Biden when he dropped out of the race. Business Insider reports that Biden promised to be tough on China during his election campaign. Axios also reported that Buttigieg is being considered for other key domestic roles. Buttigieg joined Biden's transition team in November.
For the first time, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has appeared to accept President-elect Joe Biden's win over President Donald Trump. According to Business Insider, McConnell had previously held off on acknowledging Biden's win, insisting that Trump had a right to fight the outcome in court. According to Business Insider, The Kentucky Republican has worked closely with the Trump White House to install legions of conservative judges to the federal bench. However, McConnell on Tuesday spoke of a 'new administration' when discussing future COVID-19 economic stimulus negotiations. A top adviser to President Donald Trump on the coronavirus pandemic, Atlas advocates a controversial 'herd immunity' approach. In a recent interview, Atlas blasted lockdowns as 'an epic failure of public policy,' and that they were 'killing people.' Atlas made the remarks on RT, a Kremlin-backed platform that last year a team of US lawmakers said uses YouTube as its 'propaganda vehicle of choice.' In the past, Atlas has been accused of spreading disinformation and false information surrounding the coronavirus pandemic. The radiologist apologized for his appearance on RT, tweeting he was unaware RT was registered as a foreign agent in the US.
Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel on Sunday issued a warning to Republicans attempting to distance themselves from President Donald Trump. According to Business Insider, her comments follow the tweet-lashing Trump recently gave to Republican Sen. Ben Sasse, of Nebraska. At a constituent town hall meeting, leaked audio showed Sasse criticizing Trump and saying that the coming election would be a 'bloodbath' for the GOP. Any Republican that doesn't recognize that running with the president is going to help them is hurting themselves in the long run.
