Buenos Aires, Dec 29 (EFE).- Argentines are waiting with bated breath in the coming hours to find out whether the Senate approves a bill legalizing abortion up until the 14th week of pregnancy, which although it is being supported by the government is sparking differences between government backers and the political opposition, thus foreshadowing a very tight vote. With huge crowds of people gathering to hold a vigil at the doors of Congress in Buenos Aires - on one side a "green sea" of people in favor of the law and on the other those against the measure - the parliamentary session began shortly after 4 pm and is expected to last until early Wednesday morning. Buenos Aires, Dec 28 (EFE).- Thousands of anti-abortion activists on Monday took to the streets in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires to protest against a new bill to legalize abortion. Argentina's more conservative Senate is set to hold an abortion debate on Tuesday, in a session that is expected to be extensive. An abortion bill introduced by President Alberto Fernandez's administration seeks to allow the voluntary termination of pregnancies until the 14th week of gestation, which will definitely be law if it obtains the approval of the Upper House, although the voting looks tight. Under current law, abortions can only be legally performed in cases of rape or risk to a woman's life or health. (Camera: ALBERTO CARATOZZOLO).
