Footage shot on Wednesday in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, captures the moment Alton Sterling was killed by police officers outside a local convenience store. The African-American 37-year-old was shot dead by two white police officers after being Tasered and while in a prone position. The footage, captured by the owner of the shop Abduallah Muflahi, has since provoked widespread anger and protests after being uploaded online.
US President Barack Obama called for unity following the fatal shooting of three police officers in Baton Rouge during a press conference in Washington DC on Sunday. Addressing the recent police deaths in Dallas , the president said that "five days ago I travelled to Dallas for the memorial service of the officers who were slain there. I said that, that killer would not be the last person who tries to make us turn on each other nor will today's killer. It remains up to us to make sure that they fail."
Louisiana State Police confirmed that at least three police officers were killed in a shooting in Baton Rouge in Louisiana on Sunday, with State Governor John Bel Edwards calling it an "unspeakable and unjustified attack."
