Pope To Visit Ciudad Juarez To Pray For Migrants

Description

On Wednesday Pope Francis heads to what was once one of the worlds most violent cities. The notorious Mexican border city of Ciudad Juarez. The city is a major migrant crossing on the U.S. doorstep where grisly drug violence has killed thousands. The Pontiff will pray for those who risk their lives migrating north. Ciudad Juarez remains a violent magnet for Mexican, Central American and Asian migrants looking to jump across the U.S. border. Francis' visit, and his focus on the plight of migrants, is a symbolic critique of the anti-immigrant rhetoric of candidates for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination. Migrants risk murder, rape and extortion in their quest to reach the United States.
