UCLA Study Shows Movies Make More Money When Cast Is Only 50% White

Description

Darnell Hunt, UCLA's Ralph J. Bunche Center for African American Studies found that films enjoy better box office when the cast is only half white. In fact the exact number to increase ticket sales would be four out of eight cast members should be non-whites. Hunt stated, "When we look at film, we see an even stronger relationship between cast diversity and box office." The study examined almost 200 films over a several year time period in order to make their discovery. This comes on heels of a severe backlash suffered by the Oscars for not being more diverse in their selection criteria.
