Obama, Stars Pay Tribute to Ray Charles in Final White House Concert

Description

President Barack Obama paid tribute Wednesday to Ray Charles and the late singer's unmistakable "singular sound". The president said Charles continues to influence generations of musicians. Obama noted that Charles grew up in the segregated South, but had two things working in his favor: a strong mother and music. He quoted Charles as once saying that he was born with music inside of him. Charles' career spanned every genre, including jazz, R&B, rock 'n' roll, country and soul. Obama's Charles tribute is the finale to more than a dozen In Performance events held in Obama's White House.
