Nissan's Rear Door Alert (RDA) is the industry's first system that uses the horn to remind drivers to check the back seat after the vehicle is parked. Nissan will add RDA as standard equipment to eight nameplates in 2019 and will make RDA standard on all four-door models by 2022.
Potential issues posed by interior car temperatures are still a danger well into the fall, and Nissan hopes its simple, yet clever, Rear Door Alert (RDA)1 technology may help reduce risks.Even with outside temperatures in the 60s, the interior of a car can heat to dangerous levels quickly.Nissan vehicles with RDA Since 2019 model year, RDA is standard on the Nissan Altima, Armada, LEAF, Murano, Maxima, Pathfinder, Rogue, Rogue Sport (2019.5) and TITAN (King Cab and Crew Cab). For the 2020 model year, it also is available on the all-new subcompact Versa (standard on SV and SR trim levels). How RDA works The system monitors when a rear door is opened and closed before and after the vehicle is in motion. If a rear door was used before a trip but was not opened after the vehicle is parked, the system reminds the driver. Once the vehicle is in park, the system will first display a notification in the instrument panel. If the driver exits the vehicle and does not open a rear door, the system progresses to distinctive chirps of the horn.
