Despite Tensions Russia Asks U.S. To Help Rebuild Syria

According to a report by Reuters, Russia used a closely guarded communications channel with America's top general to suggest that the two nations could cooperate to rebuild Syria and repatriate refugees to the war-torn country. On July 19th, the chief of the Russian military’s General Staff, Valery Gerasimov, sent a letter with the proposal to US Marine General Joseph Dunford, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The proposal reportedly details how Russia, having helped turn the tide of the war in favor of President Bashar al-Assad, is now pushing Washington and others to help in the reconstruction of areas under his control.
