(Newser) – Atlanta police have announced that they made an arrest in the shooting death of actor Thomas Jefferson Byrd. A man pokes his head out of a doorway and raises a hand while saying something that can't be heard on the video. He withdraws into the doorway and then emerges a few seconds later wearing red shorts with white stars and no shirt and with both hands in the air. Best known for his roles in Spike Lee films, Byrd was found dead around 1:45am Oct. 3 near his home in southwest Atlanta.
Acclaimed for his stage work and his roles in Spike Lee films, Thomas Jefferson Byrd has been murdered. He was 70 years old. Newser reports Byrd was found dead on Saturday at his home in Atlanta, Georgia. Police have remained quiet about the incident, but say Byrd was found with multiple bullets in his back. The Tony Award-nominated actor had appeared in several movies, including Lee's Clockers, Get on the Bus, and Chi-Raq. Byrd also appeared in the Ray Charles biopic Ray.
